Medieval Roleplay I Don't Have a Title For

Let me be the first to start a Medieval roleplay.
*Ahem*

Long ago, in a land ruled by the great wizard king Gin-sama, the people lived in peace and harmony with one another. The livestock thrived, and trade flourished. However, there also resided an evil witch in the mountains beyond the outskirts of this bountiful land. This witch, who was once Gin-sama's lover, now threatens the good people and their livelihood.
Who will step up to defeat the witch? Will they even have a chance?

Basically a free roleplay, explore the kingdom, traverse the outskirts, or whatever else. There will be plagues and such happening around the kingdom, and a general objective.

I'll lead with an introduction.

The great wizard king, Gin-sama, paced back and forth in the middle of his throne room. He had his right hand placed firmly on his hip, the left stroking his magnificent silver beard. "This is not good.. very not good.." He could sense a familiar presence in the kingdom, one that had haunted his dreams for a long time. Something was amiss in his kingdom. Without warning, people and animals had started to grow weak and their skin was turning an unusual shade of yellow. "This can only be her doing. But it will not be easily stopped.."

Gin-sama:

A once beautiful girl, now looked like a rabid animal. Her skin looking yellowed asnd sickly. Her eyes were dead and no longer focused. Her long hair mangled and dirty. The poor girl was named Rebekah. Her family long since left the plagued kingdom, leaving her to succumb to the mysterious disease. Her raggedy dress in tatters, she staggered to the large palace. Her last hope was to seek help from the king. She used to fantasize about royalty and how one day she might marry a handsome prince or maybe even a knight. Those were the days when the land was plentiful and grass was greener than ever. Those were the days when sickness was unheard of. Those were the days when family was united and happy. Rebekah had been the most sought after maiden in the kingdom. Now, she was on death's front door. She made her way to the guarded gates but at this time of day, they were unattentive and she snuck her way to the doors of the palace. She could barely muster enough energy to knock audibly on the towering doors but the wood echoed loudly. She desperately awaited anyone to come to the door. Anyone to help. Anyone.

Gin-sama could hear the knocks clearer than a bell. In his palace, nothing went on without him knowing or hearing about it. Being a great and powerful wizard, he had better senses than a blood hound. He left his room and levitated down the center of the twenty-story spiral staircase. Upon surfacing, he trotted along the main hallway and up to the front door. He could have summoned a guard, but not at this hour. Everyone was obviously sleeping, and one guest wasn't worth waking the entire palace to get the door. He turned the lock and slid it sideways, then opened the door.

"Ah, good morning, child. What is it you seek?"

Her response was delayed, her body growing weaker by the minute. "Can you help me? What is happening? I..." She never finished her cry for help. She collapsed at the door, still breathing, but out cold. This had been happening to her more and more frequently. She knew time was running out and one of these times might be her last.

"Oh, dear.." He leaned down and picked up the sickly girl, cradling her in his arms. "This sickness.. it is a curse, brought upon my kingdom by a wrathful spirit. I cannot stop it myself, but I can do my best to keep you alive." He blinked, and her body started to glow. "The plague hasn't yet reached your heart or your brain, thankfully.." His magic could not break the witch's curse, but it could hold it back from getting any worse. Both of their powers pushed against one another, unable to destroy or be destroyed.

Her body could sense the stopping of the spreading of the mysterious plague. Though she was unconscious, she subconsciously knew she was safe and for the first time since the kingdom started to fall apart, she was peaceful.

Gin-sama looked down at the girl as he floated up to the top floor, and entered his room. He lay the girl on his bed. "I must find someone who will break this curse.." he muttered to himself as he stroked his beard. He needed to save as many as he could, if only this one child. He needed a knight brave enough to venture across the outskirts and survive long enough to challenge the queen. But how to find the right person to do it, that was tricky. He needed someone that would step up and take on the world, with no other drive but their own.

When she would have these fainting spells before, she began with only staying unconscious for minutes, but those turned into hours and sometimes days. As the plague spread throughout her body, they became longer. She kept track mentally and she knew her time was growing to an end. This trip to the palace had been her last hope. Now, she awoke with a start. Her breathing was labored but her vision clear. The plague had slowly been taking her vision but the stopping of it somehow cleared it. The rest of her body had not changed but her bright eyes blinked as she took in her surroundings. She spotted the king but did not recognize him. She did not remember how she got there or why she was there. Her memory had been horrible lately as well. It usually returned to her a few hours after her spell. Her memory loss told her that she had had one. "How long has it been?" She asked urgently to the king, still unaware of his identity or where she was.

"It's alright, child. You passed out only a few minutes ago. I'd say by the look of you, if I hadn't placed that healing barrier, you may not have woken up this time." He gave her a smile.

She tried to slow her breathing. "A few minutes...that's not possible..." She took long, deep breaths and after a long pause she looked up at him. "Wait...I can see clearly...I haven't been able to see clearly since..." she hesitated and finished softly. "since my family left." She then remembered her previous statement. She gathered her thoughts and repeated herself. "A few minutes is not possible. Who are you anyway? Where am I?" Her manners had long since left her.

"Well, I'm the king of the land you live in, Gin-sama. I stopped your sickness from advancing to your brain and your heart." He chuckled to himself. If you hadn't pushed yourself to my doorstep, I wouldn't have saved you."

She gasped softly. "oh, I'm sorry..your highness, I didn't know...thank you." She looked at him in awe and disbelief. She remembered stories her mother used to tell her about the wonderful king that ruled the kingdom. She remembered how she always wondered what it would be like to meet royalty. She looked saddened by the memories.

"Hey, hey.. it's alright, now. You're safe.. although I wish I could say for the rest." He peered out the window, looking over his once-beautiful land. "That witch did this.."

She was about to inquire about his statement but thought better of it. Instead she commented on his first. "Most people have left, your highness. Of those who are sick, most are too weak to move and are slowly dying. I..." she pauses, sickened by the memories flooding back to her. "On my way here, there were countless dead in the streets, more dropping every minute." She closed her eyes and the images of all the sick people, some even worse than herself flooded her brain. She had flashbacks of how she watched her family leave her to die and the memory that hurt the most was the image of the love of her life walking away. leaving. just like the rest of them. When she opened her eyes, she looked up at Gin-sama with watery eyes. "You have to help us. Please."

He closed his eyes, facing the girl with a grave expression on his face. "Alas.. I cannot undo the spell that has been cast on my kingdom. At least, not until its source is defeated. Our magics cannot affect one another."

"What do you mean 'our'?"

"The witch and I were once lovers, you see. We made a bond that would null our magics to one another... it was foolish, yes, but a legal part of engagement."

She looked down at her hands and then out the window. She then looked at him and said very quietly. "Why is she doing this?"

"Because I fell out of love with her. I saw a darkness in her that nobody else could. And she knows I see that darkness. But she is angry and is making me suffer for it." He sighed deeply.

She pondered this for a long time before speaking again. "I'm not going to get better...am I.." she said it more as a self-confirming statement than a question.

"Not if we can't find someone brave and strong enough to defeat this witch."

"Why can't you do it?"

"As I explained, I can't affect her with my magic."

She nodded. "Oh yeah, sorry, I must have forgotten. I don't feel too..." Suddenly her eyes clouded over again. "I must be...getting worse..." She sighed and it was obvious she's used to it. She lied down. "Thank you...for trying..." she quickly fell into a deep sleep. Strangely, the barrier was very slowly weakening.
